Got an opportunity to witness manufacturing on a hybrid manufacturing machine and sharing my thoughts. The machine is a combination of additive manufacturing and milling. Though I thought it's still a slower process compared to full subtractive manufacturing, the versatility I experienced is awesome. Specifically on smaller parts, metal or plastic like machine spares, low volume prototypes, academics projects etc can be very well made. Only higher tolerated, finished zones are machined with subtractive operations later. Saving a lot of machining time and material. The process, being in its beginning stages of innovation has some limitations like, limited number of materials, slow additive manufacturing time, limited post-processing options like heat treatment etc and need to prove on application front ex.
